Support the poor over Christmas
ALEXANDRA - As the festive season draws close and many wait in anticipation for goodies from family and friends, the less fortunate will only anticipate misery if charity organisation do not assist them.
As the festive season draws close and many wait in anticipation for goodies from family and friends, the less fortunate will only anticipate misery if charity organisations do not assist them.
One such organisations is Mveledzo Community Organisation on 3rd Avenue, which supports orphaned and vulnerable children. For a number of years, the organisation has supported hundreds of poor children with after school feeding and food parcels for home consumption. Occasionally, it provides them with other school items including uniforms and school books. To make the year end a joyous moment for these children, the organisation will, as in previous years, organise a Christmas event where goodies, fun games and other entertainment will cheer them up.
Mabel Dikobe, organisation director said these children are always forgotten as families retreat to the comfort of their families without regard of those in need. “We try to cheer them up by organising a Christmas event for them and their families annually at the beginning of December. This helps to uplift their spirits and sustain hope in their lives. They will be entertained by games such as a trampoline, receive gifts and be feed through support of donations from sponsors,” she said.
Dikobe stated that with increased levels of poverty and the numbers of child-headed and grandparent-headed households, it is important that society should show generosity through acts of compassion and caring for the less fortunate. She appealed to those wanting to donate to their plans to contact them.
