ALEXANDRA - A suspected cellphone robber has been arrested by Alex police.
A suspected cellphone robber has been arrested by Alex police.
According to Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, the suspect and his girlfriend, who are well-known to the victim, visited her at her 16th Avenue home in the early hours of the evening and demanded to talk to her privately.
The three then went into another room t to talk. Inside the room, her friend’s boyfriend produced two firearms, pointed them at the victim and demanded that she hand all her cellphones to him.
Terrified, the victim pointed to her handbag, which the armed suspect grabbed and searched and took out two cellphones to the value of R800. The suspect and her girlfriend then left the house. No shots were fired.
As soon as they left, the victim, who lives a stone throw away from the cop shop, rushed out to open a case at the Alexandra Police Station and the suspect was immediately picked up by the police. He will appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court soon on a charge of armed robbery.
