Gang members await murder and rape sentence
ALEXANDRA - Two members of an Alex youth gang are in the cells awaiting sentence 11 February for the murder of a rival gang member.
Two members of an Alex youth gang are in the behind bars waiting for sentencing on 11 February for the murder of a rival gang member.
The suspects were apprehended on 20 December for the murder committed on 5 December 2013 while they were out on bail and under correctional supervision and parental care for another case of gang rape.
The murder was committed with two others who were released, as witnesses could not link them to the crime.
The case heard by Magistrate Reiner Boshoff at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court was that the gangs constantly fought over possession of the Michael Jordan Clothing Brand products that were obtained legitimately, forcefully from each other, or stolen from residents.
It is said the accused were involved in a fight with the deceased and his gang members resulting in him seeking refuge in Sankopano Community Centre where they hauled him out after threatening security guards.
They molested him with hands and other lethal weapons outside the centre. The victim was certified dead on the scene by ambulance personnel.
The two who were released are expected to resume correctional supervision for the previous rape case.
