Archbishop donates to his former school

ALEXANDRA - Archbishop Thabo Makgoba was back home in Alex with nostalgic feelings which almost made him shed a tear.

Archbishop Thabo Makgoba of the Anglican Church made a nostalgic visit to Alex.

He visited his alma mata, Pholosho Primary School to donate a cheque and school uniforms from the Archbishop Thabo Cecil Makgoba Trust.

Accompanied by his wife Lungi Makgoba, the Archbishop said he attended the school in 1973 and then went to Orlando High in Soweto in 1976. He credited his personal development and achievements in life to the discipline he received at school and at home. This he said developed his positive character which made him pursue further studies at the University of the North, the ministry in Grahamstown, and at Wits for a Masters and PhD studies.

Makgoba said because of his links to Pholosho Primary, his Trust made annual donations to the school. This year the Trust donated uniforms to three needy pupils, Zukhanye Sefu, Siyanda Tshivetshe and Belinda Ndlovu. A R25 000 cheque was also handed over to the school for plumbing on toilets and water reticulation.

In appreciation, the school’s principal Elias Sithole said the donation was a continuation of a long term relationship.

Pupil, Sefu shed tears of gratitude and said she persevered after seeing other pupils receiving uniforms last year. “I knew my chance would come and didn’t want to compare myself with others, as circumstance are different and all receive their assistance differently,” she said.
