Constitutional hiccups threaten to derail Alex football elections

Minor constitutional hiccups are threatening to derail the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association elections which are now expected no later than June.
Secretary general of the football association, Mafika Morajane said the association was ready anytime to hold the elective AGM, but there were some constitutional matters that needed to be attended to first by the South African Football Association (Safa) Johannesburg Region.
Morajane said the outstanding constitutional matters related to the streamlining of the constitutions of local football associations, and those of Safa Johannesburg Region, and the national mother body, Safa.
“Our constitution as Alex football has already been amended to accommodate the unification of the masters and legends football associations. “The mother body refers to masters association as legends, while we refer to them as masters.
“All we want is unification of those bodies as we believe it’s one and the same thing. You may decide to call it masters or legends, it boils down to the same thing. It’s only an issue of semantics here,” Morajane said in an interview with Alex News.
Morajane said on 11 January they met with Safa Joburg where the need to standardise the constitutions of the local football associations was tabled. “We were promised this would be done soon,” he said. “We’re waiting for Safa Joburg to call a meeting of all local football associations to rectify the anomaly and once this is done we shall go ahead and hold our AGM.
“We would like to assure the community of Alexandra that we shall have a transparent and credible AGM no later than June if the amendments don’t drag on for some time,“ Morajane said.
The constitution allows for 21 or 45 days notice to soccer clubs about the date of the AGM, and seeing that time was not on their side, Morajane said they would be forced to opt for the 21 days notice in order to expedite the process.
