A RECENT meeting of the Alex Police Forum issued advise to residents and businesses on crime prevention measures for their own safety and to maintain peace.
The police appealed to houseowners where gambling is conducted to stop this activity as they were intensifying operations to ensure zero tolerance of gambling.
They also advised tavern and shebeen owners to comply with liquor board rules in order to curb crime often associated with alcohol abuse from their premises. They said weekend patrols have been intensified to ensure they complied. The abuse is said to increase domestic abuse, assaults, breaking of house windows and the damage of vehicles when people got angry with each other.
Another concern was noise pollution from vehicle radios which is said to escalate public drinking resulting in dancing and disorderly conduct on the streets. Residents were further advised to desist from walking next to dilapidated structures especially those behind the Engen Garage in Tsutsumani. If necessary, they should walk in the area in groups.
