Armed robber sentenced to 15 years
ALEXANDRA - A man has been sentenced to 15 years in jail for robbing a woman at gunpoint.
The sentence was passed on Denis Shakwane by the Alex Magistrates’ Court for the robbery of Vuyiswa Kweleni .
The court heard that on 1 April, Kweleni, who had just arrived in Alex from the Eastern Cape was walking with family to their home along 5th Avenue when Shakwane approached and pointed a gun at her, demanding money. Four other men also appeared from nearby shacks and demanded money and cellphones. She gave them a Nike bag with clothes, two cellphones and R300 in cash, all totaling R12 700.
Shakwane was arrested following investigations, however, his four accomplices are still at large.
