Bursaries available for beauticians

ALEXANDRA - Youth unemployment remains one of the biggest challenges for the South African government and often drives the youth to crime and other activities.

Youth unemployment remains one of the biggest challenges for the South African government.

It is believed unemployed youth get bored, lack money to afford day-to-day essentials and, as a result, resort to crime.

Ellies Beauty Studio has come up with a skills programme and is offering bursaries to empower young people. The studio is especially focused on women with its beauty skills programme, and this includes nail technology and eyelash and hair extensions.

The bursary programme is underway and aspiring beauticians are doing practical work while preparing to start their own businesses or to get employment.

There are limited bursaries so those interested need to act fast.

“We are looking for hard-working individuals who have a passion for beauty, and we have no age restriction, and these include dropouts and matriculants who are currently struggling to find work,” said a statement from the studio.

Those who complete the course stand a chance of being placed at other Ellies beauty branches or can start their own businesses under the mentorship of Elizabeth Nchabeng, the founder of the company.

Graduates are also referred to the National Youth Development Agency for entrepreneurship workshops, and also for those seeking funding and mentorship after completing the course.

The closing date for the bursaries, which will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis, is 31 July.
