Alex youths stand up for peace

ALEXANDRA - Christ Embassy Church Sunninghill group under the leadership of Pastor Margaret Thage gathered 1 200 school children from Alex and Soweto Schools to commemorate June 16 tagged 'Youth for Peace'.

Christ Embassy Church Sunninghill group under the leadership of Pastor Margaret Thage gathered 1 200 schoolchildren from Alex and Soweto schools to commemorate June 16 in a Youth for Peace event.

The event took place at Pace Community college in Jabulani, Soweto. The youth were addressed by staff from education organisation Sci-Bono Discovery Centre on how to make career choices.

The police addressed issues around safety in schools and in communities, and how young people could positively contribute to promote safety issues.

Also on hand was staff of the Department of Health who addressed the youth on how to prevent teenage pregnancies.

The pupils were also given opportunities to show off their different talents such as poetry, music and dance.

“It was a glorious day, full of not just entertainment, but serious discussions on issues that affect our youth today,” said Thage who is a former principal of Pholosho Junior Secondary School in Alexandra.
