Two women appeared in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for attempted fraud and were remanded in custody pending further investigation.
Alex police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Manare Ramotshela, said the women, who hold senior positions at a retail store in Alex Plaza, were arrested for committing the offence at another shop in the same mall.
They allegedly tried to purchase clothes from the store using a credit card issued by the shop but registered in someone else’s name. Ramotshela said the fraudulent transaction was discovered when the shop’s computer system alerted the saleswoman attending to them.
He said the women admitted to their allegedly offence to store management, saying they had stolen the card from a branch of the same shop at Greenstone Mall in Edenvale.
Police investigations will also determine if the card was cloned.
