Alex women get business boost in Women’s Month
ALEXANDRA - Alex’s aspiring and fledgling female business operators received a good dose of support to complement their celebration of women’s month.
Alex’s aspiring and fledgling businesswomen received a good dose of support from the Innovation Hub to complement their celebration of Women’s Month.
The Pretoria-based organisation of the province’s Department of Economic Development, provides support to boost the development of macro and medium entrepreneurs, especially in the townships. The initiative focuses on business ventures of the youth and women, with the aim of integrating them into the mainstream economy.
The organisation’s Notile Mpisi said it was prudent to leave a mark on this celebratory month in the interest of women. This through business-related information dissemination to help these entrepreneurs think creatively when formulating their business ideas, consolidate their plans, and to provide them with the knowledge of how to access funding and other related support.
Mpisi said they had selected Alex, which will be followed by Tembisa, as locations for the Innovation Hub’s decentralised bases called Ekasi Labs.
“It’s costly and inconvenient to expect them [entrepreneurs] to access our services and support from Pretoria,” she said.
Mpisi anticipated that there would be more such engagements in the future to broaden awareness and increase the number of emerging entrepreneurs.
Though the Women’s Day attendance of about 100 women was dominated by those in the construction industry and agricultural sector, Mpisi said some attendees were street traders and spaza operators who are also eligible for support.
