Alex police make numerous arrests

ALEXANDRA - Several men appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate Court Monday, 31 August and were remanded in police custody for various crimes committed from Friday, 28 August to Sunday 30 August.

Several men appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 31 August and were remanded in police custody for various crimes committed between 28 August and 30 August.

According to Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, they will reappear in court on various dates for their case hearings.

The cases include the following:

  • One man was arrested on 29 August for allegedly trying to withdraw money from a bank using a fraudulent Identity Document. Police were contacted and arrested the suspect at the bank in the Pan Africa Mall when the fraudulent document was detected by a teller.
  • Another man was arrested on 29 August at Pan Africa Mall when he allegedly tried to cash a fraudulent cheque at a shop. A shop assistant discovered the cheque to be fake and the man failed to verify its authenticity, resulting in police being called and the suspect being arrested.
  • On 29 August, a man from 16th Avenue allegedly pointed his licenced firearm at another man after an altercation. Maphakela said police then arrested the man.
  • Seven men were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol between 28 and 30 August.
  • Two men were arrested separately for alleged possession of motor vehicles which had been reported as hijacked in Bramley and Sandringham. Two other suspects were also arrested separately for the alleged possession of motor vehicles which had been reported stolen from Tembisa and Honeydew.
