ALEXANDRA - An Alex man was sentenced by the Alexandra Magistrate Court to 6 years imprisonment for armed robbery of a woman.
An Alex man was sentenced by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to six years’ imprisonment for robbing a woman at gunpoint on 8 November last year.
Shane Ndlovu (19) was rearrested after he had skipped bail.
The court heard that Ndlovu robbed the victim with two accomplices who were still at large. The woman had alighted from a taxi at Pan Africa mall while on her way home from work. Ndlovu is said to have pointed a gun in the victim’s face, and the three demanded she hand over her handbag, to which she complied. They also stole her cellphone and R100 before running away.
The woman waved down a passing taxi, and the driver and her drove in the direction the robbers had fled. They came across a police patrol car which took up the chase and caught up with the robbers, but officers only managed to apprehend Ndlovu. They found the victim’s handbag and the gun, which turned out to be a toy, in the possession of Ndlovu.
