Fraudster avoids jail

ALEXANDRA - Alexandra Magistrates' Court sentenced a company's former administration officer to seven year in jail wholly suspended for five years provided she repays the money to the company as per her guilty plea.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court sentenced a company’s former administration officer to seven years in jail, wholly suspended for five years, provided she repaid the money to the company as per her guilty plea.

The court heard that Sarika Panday, who is in her 20s, committed the fraud in November this year resulting in a financial loss of R369 000 to her employer, a storage company in Midrand.

Panday was said to have stolen the money by completing fake refund forms on which she put her own bank account details.

In her guilty plea, she committed to repaying the company via a R30 000 lump sum and the balance through monthly instalments of R10 000. She was said to be currently working for a doctor in Durban.
