Aspiring filmmakers to be rewarded handsomely
ALEXANDRA - e aspiring young film makers stand to win handsomely from a theatre, for their fifteen minute creations deemed worthy the price.
Three aspiring young filmmakers stand to win handsomely if their 15-minute short films are chosen as winners.
This will be through a contest arranged by Olive Tree Theatre for youths, including those in Alex who are keen on exploring the filmmaking field.
Theatre founder and director, Ntshieng Mokgoro, said the initiative, one of their lead activities this year, was part of preparations for the youth film festival that will be hosted in June.
“The successful films will be shown at the festival and the overall winner will receive R10 000, first runner-up R5 000 and the third R2 500,” Mokgoro said.
She was hopeful that the initiative would, with funding support, be an annual activity as part of the theatre’s contribution to unearthing and exposing local talent. The theatre would train candidates to be future professional filmmakers.
“The competition is a pilot and the participants should have and use their own equipment. If successful, we will explore possible support with equipment, and facilitators to help with intense workshops and script production,” said Mokgoro.
