A huge loss to the community
LOMBARDY EAST - Lombardy East resident Lieutenant Colonel Morne Maritz of the Alexandra Police Station has been described as a huge loss not only to the police fraternity but also to the lawn bowls community.
JOBURG – The death of Lieutenant Colonel Morne Maritz of the Alexandra Police Station has been described as a huge loss not only for the police fraternity but also to the lawn bowls community.
Maritz died on 10 January from a gunshot wound to the head.
Proteas lawn bowls player Desiree Levin said Maritz had a great passion for bowls and had many friends in the bowling world.
“Morne had many friends in the bowling community and was always greeted warmly wherever he went. Of course, not everybody was always pleased to see him, especially the older generation when they realised he was there to play,” Levin said.
Maritz recently participated in the inaugural HomeBid Spectacular Circle of Talent Competition. Levin said his teammates were unbelievably impressed by his friendliness, sportsmanship and skills.
“It is a great tragedy that Morne is no longer with us. He will be sorely missed by everyone in Lombardy East, and most certainly, as the dependable skipper of the team.”
Maritz passed away only a day before he could achieve 23 years of service in the policing service.
