Suspect in court on charge of pawning company items for loans

ALEXANDRA - The Alexandra Magistrates Court granted a man who allegedly defrauded his employers of R31000 worthy of assets bail of R3000.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court recently granted a man, who allegedly defrauded his employers of R31 000 worth of assets, bail of R3 000 and he will appear in court soon for a hearing after further investigation is completed.

The court heard that the suspect, who was an area manager for a technology company from May to September last year, allegedly defrauded his employers of electronic devices under his care by allegedly pawning the items to several pawn shops in exchange for financial loans. The devices had been given to him for promotional and marketing displays at shops, and he was responsible for ensuring their safety and to report any that went missing.

Instead, several pawn shops allegedly confirmed that he had pawned the devices to them for loans which he hadn’t repaid, leading to financial prejudice against them and his employers.

One shop owner called his employers after the suspect failed to repay a loan of R2 300 as agreed, leading to the man’s arrest. A total of 20 devices were pawned.

The case continues.
