Dr Malinga pays homage to Alex
ALEXANDRA - One of Mzansi's foremost creative house, afro pop, jazz, gospel musician and song writer dubbed kick dancer Dr Malinga paid homage to Alex's residents and fans he said he is indebted to for his fame and fortune.
One of Mzansi’s foremost creative house, afro-pop, jazz and gospel musicians, Dr Malinga, paid homage to Alex residents and his fans who, he said, he was indebted to for his fame and fortune.
Dr Malinga also had words of advice to youngsters intending to follow in his and other artists’ footsteps. “Like in all professions, the road to success in life is straight, long but narrow and derives from one’s perception about life and requires hard work,” he said.
“It needs discipline, determination, focus and an ability to withstand negative temptations, especially from peers for their own ulterior motives.”
He said he was in Alex to pay his respects to the fans who spent their valuable money on buying his music. “I need to show them respect, be a role model to youngsters and urge them on the right path to success in whatever endeavours they choose in life,” he said.
“The youth should also learn to first respect themselves and then their parents, who made them who they are [in spite of] meagre resources and poor dwellings. They should get educated and help improve their family’s circumstances in order to get them out of misery.”
Raised by his granny who instilled discipline in him, Dr Malinga’s wise words to the girls were that they should be extra cautious in their choice of friends to avoid losing focus on their education through temptations that could lead to unwanted pregnancies and illnesses. “The time you spend in taverns affects your studies and diminishes your prospects for attaining high grades and further academic prospects,” he said.
He bemoaned the youth’s addiction to nyaope, particularly among boys which caused them to drop out of school. “The country loses prospective presidents and prominent leaders through this drug and other substance abuse. There should be concerted efforts by all to get rid of this drug.”
He encouraged the youth to always seek advice whenever faced with challenges, but to avoid selecting bad role models.
