Pikitup workers embark on illegal strike; rubbish collection affected

JOBURG - The City of Joburg has issued a statement that workers for the Waste Management Company, Pikitup, have embarked on an illegal strike which will affect refuse collection in all regions. 

The workers who have embarked on the strike are affiliated to the South African Municipal Worker’s Union (SAMWU).

Pikitup apologised to residents and has appealed for patience from its residents and business owners and to not leave their bins outside their properties on collection days until further notice.

The City and Pikitup board and management condemned the SAMWU worker’s unlawful actions.
