Man denied bail for illegal gun possesssion

ALEXANDRA - The Alexandra Magistrates Court remanded a twenty year old Diepsloot man in custody pending further investigation in an alleged case of possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court remanded a 20-year-old Diepsloot resident to custody pending further investigation into an alleged case of possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

The court heard that Alex police, acting on a tip-off from the public, arrested the suspect in August last year next to a tavern in Diepsloot.

After searching the suspect and his Toyota Camry, which was parked in close proximity to the tavern, the police found a firearm underneath the seat. The firearm had its serial number filed off and contained four rounds of ammunition.

The accused failed to produce a licence for the firearm and informed the police that he bought it for R500 in the City of Johannesburg from someone he could not identify.

The firearm was sent for ballistic testing to check if it was used in other reported crimes.

The case continues.
