Child rape case awaits DNA test results

ALEXANDRA - A 21 year old Alex man's legal council declined applying for his bail at the Alexandra Magistrates Court in connection with a rape case he allegedly committed on a minor on 28 September last year.

A 21-year-old Alex man’s legal council declined applying for his bail at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court in connection with the rape of a minor on 28 September last year.

It is assumed this was done to avoid inciting the public.

The court heard that the accused allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl of 14th Avenue whose family he knows. It was alleged that in the afternoon on the day, the victim returned home from the accused’s place on 8th Avenue with red eyes from crying. When the mother, who was preparing to go to work, asked what had happened, the minor told her that the accused, then in Grade 12 at a local secondary school, had raped her and without a condom. This led to his arrest.

The court heard that the victim was said to have stated in a medical report that she had a boyfriend who she had slept with several times, but that he wasn’t the accused.

The results of medical tests submitted to court confirmed that she had injuries to her private parts consistent with forced penetration. Judgement was reserved pending the results of DNA testing.
