Cellphone giant MTN has donated soccer kits to the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association which will be used by the Alex Academy squad.
Chairperson of Alex football, Maisha Molepo said they had been told by local lad Siphiwe Nkosi of Alex-based company Kgwele Entertainment, that MTN had kits to give away. “We immediately took advantage of the tip and followed it up with MTN resulting in this donation,” said Molepo.
Nkosi has been previously involved with Alex football and the Maimane Alfred Phiri Games (Map Games) in a marketing capacity. Through Kgwele Entertainment, Nkosi also runs a soccer tournament that is sponsored by the cellphone company.
The donation is a complete set of three soccer kits which Molepo said would be used by the academy squad in its local football association games.
In his gratitude for the donation, Molepo said he hoped this gesture was a starting point for many things to come as Alex football sought to cement the newly-found relationship with the cellphone giant.
“On behalf of Alex football, I am greatly humbled by the donation and I hope we can build on it and develop a fully-fledged partnership that will have the power to advance our community development initiatives through the sport of football,” Molepo said.
