Suspect arrested for assaulting girlfriend in front of police

SANDOWN – Bramley police recently arrested a Sandton resident for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, in the presence of police officers.

The incident initially unfolded in Sandown when, according to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley Police Station, the police received a complaint of domestic violence. “Our officers responded to the complaint and when they arrived, they received information that the suspect had allegedly assaulted his girlfriend,” Maphakela said.

The victim did not lay a charge and, instead, she and the suspect were taken to Bramley Police Station to complete a domestic violence register. While they were completing the register, the suspect allegedly once again struck the victim, this time in front of the officers.

Maphakela confirmed that the suspect was arrested and detained at the station, where he was charged with assault and domestic violence.

“He has since made an appearance in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 22 February where the case was postponed.”
