Youth nabbed for possession of stolen vehicle
ALEXANDRA - A youth awaits sentencing for the possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.
An Alex youth was remanded in custody by Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending further investigation for the alleged possession of a reported stolen motor vehicle.
The vehicle belonged to a company and was reported hijacked recently.
The court heard that an employee of the company residing in Alex saw the vehicle parked on the corner of Vincent Tshabalala Road and 14th Avenue at 7pm with the 20-year-old accused inside. The employee alerted the police to its location where they arrested the man who was still seated in the vehicle.
When asked, the accused claimed that the vehicle belonged to his uncle called Vusi who had allegedly gone to buy beer. He could not point out where the uncle lived.
The owner of the company was called to the scene and identified the vehicle as belonging to him.
When the uncle failed to turn up, the accused, who was already handcuffed, was hauled to the cells. The vehicle was returned to the company.
