NYDA sends youth to Namibia for skills development

MIDRAND – Twelve young people are on their way to Namibia for skills development.

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), in partnership with the National Youth Services of Namibia, recently sent 12 South African youth to Namibia for skills development and community work.

In a statement, executive director of National Youth Service at NYDA, Ankie Motsoahae explained, “The Namibian-South African Youth Exchange is an initiative by the National Youth Development Agency and the National Youth Service of Namibia informed by a bilateral agreement between the governments of the two countries.”

She also said the six-month exchange programme allows for the promotion of a global culture of youth service. “The main objective of the project is to build effective co-operation and solidarity among the youth from these countries through exposure and providing youth with necessary skills and youth development work. Youth will be given vocational training,” said Motsoahae.

This after a group of 16 participants from Namibia spent six months undergoing youth development training in South Africa in August last year and were given opportunities to serve communities identified through NYDA branches and partner municipalities hosting Youth Advisory Centres across the country.
