Man charged with pointing unlicenced firearm at neighbour
ALEXANDRA - Read about a man who admitted to possessing and pointing an unlicenced gun at a neighbour.
An Eastbank man was denied bail at Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for a case of possession and pointing an unlicensed firearm at a neighbour.
The 24-year-old remains in custody pending a court appearance after the investigation is completed.
The court heard that the accused and an accomplice went to a nearby home where they found a man with his girlfriend. The suspects allegedly threatened and pointed a gun at the two victims while asking them about the whereabouts of another man who resided in the same house.
Before the victims answered, the suspects proceeded upstairs in search of the man they were looking for. This enabled the couple to escape. From a distance, they observed the suspects leaving the house, followed shortly by the man they were looking for, running away.
The complainants reported the incident to the police who arrested the suspects at their nearby home. When asked, the two denied going to the complainant’s home and said they did not posses a firearm. They were taken to Alex Police Station where one of the accused eventually admitted to possessing the firearm.
He took police to a location near the victims’ home where the gun, which had its serial number filed off, was hidden.
The other suspect was released.
