Son helps nab thieves of father’s car
ALEXANDRA – Son comes across his father's stolen car. Metro responds.
A man helped recover his father’s stolen vehicle after coming across it being driven by strangers and still with its original number plates.
The men in the stolen vehicle were arrested and appeared at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court. They were remanded in custody pending further investigation.
The vehicle, a Toyota Corolla valued at R23 000, was said to be stolen from the father’s home in Tsakane in the early hours of the morning of 16 March this year. He alerted his son, who stays in Tembisa, to the theft. The son, who was driving in his own vehicle, saw the stolen vehicle being driven in Tembisa hours after the father had informed him.
He followed it onto Allandale Road, Midrand towards the M1 freeway. Luckily, he saw Metro police on the roadside and stopped to report it to the officers who pursued the vehicle. After getting confirmation of the vehicle being reported stolen, the police stopped the car and the two occupants were arrested.
The driver of the stolen vehicle claimed to be a mechanic and alleged that the car had been brought to him to be repaired by a customer whose address he failed to provide but said he could identify the person.
Police noticed that the vehicle’s starter mechanism had been tampered with.
It was returned to the owner.
