Husband accuses wife of witchcraft
ALEXANDRA - Court urges elderly couple embroiled in witchcraft allegation to reconcile
The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court dismissed a case presented as domestic violence and, instead, advised the elderly complainant and defendant to reconcile.
The complainant, a 74-year-old man had pressed a charge of witchcraft and was said to be processing a divorce against his 68-year-old wife of many years, alleging that she bewitched him using chickens.
This after he became concerned by her regular visits to her Eastern Cape home, and the number of chickens she was rearing at their Alex home which, he claimed, had increased inexplicably to over 60 from only two within a short period.
The defendant claimed the husband killed all the chickens, which she ate with the help of others, but didn’t say if he also partook.
It was said that the husband has two houses and wants his wife to relocate to one of them.
The couple was advised to go home and reconcile.
