Woman gets 6 months jail time for R184k cellphone theft

ALEXANDRA - Mom with baby gets three year sentence for phone theft

A 35-year-old woman pleaded guilty to the theft of cellphones from her employers and was sentenced to three years imprisonment by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court. The sentence was commuted to an effective six months.

Refiloe Modisane’s sentence was reduced because she has a baby and two other children she is caring for and is unmarried.

She was found guilty of the theft of 23 phones worth R184 000 from a franchise shop at Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton last year. The theft was discovered when her supervisor was checking stock and realised there were phones missing which had not been recorded as sold.

None of the phones were recovered.
