Pretoria youths face Midrand house robbery trial
ALEXANDRA - Three Pretoria youths on trial for TV theft in Midrand house robbery.
Three Pretoria youths were remanded in custody by Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for alleged housebreaking and robbery in Vorna Valley, Midrand, on 16 September last year.
The youths were seen driving suspiciously in a Toyota Tazz on one of the suburban roads by an off-duty police officer and resident of the area. The officer followed them in his vehicle and when he tried to stop them, they sped off and onto the R55 heading towards Pretoria, resulting in a high-speed chase.
Their vehicle came to a stop after the bonnet flew open and smashed the windscreen, blocking the driver’s view. The driver lost control and drove over a kerb resulting in the two front tyres bursting and the vehicle stopping.
The police officer then arrested all three suspects.
A plasma TV and an assortment of items were found in the vehicle, which the accused failed to account for. The items were returned to a homeowner who identified them as stolen in the house robbery.
Two of the accused were found to have violated their bail condition for robberies they committed earlier, but separately, elsewhere.
The suspects will appear in court soon.
