Hillbrow police have confirmed that the hostage situation ended just after 1 am, after the perpetrator threw the baby over the balcony then jumped out the building.

Hillbrow police are currently negotiating the release of a three-year-child who is being held hostage by an undisclosed number of perpetrators in Hillbrow.
So far one person has been stabbed and is in a stable condition.
Spokesperson for Hillbrow Police Station Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo, confirmed that police were currently on scene.
