Couple robbed by taxi crew

ALEXANDRA – Couple robbed by taxi crew transporting them

Alex police are investigating the robbery of a couple by a taxi crew that was transporting them.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Allie Kodisang said the incident occurred on 15th Avenue at 2.30pm on 16 July this year.

The husband, also a taxi operator, parked his own vehicle at a local garage and joined his wife who was returning from work in the suspects’ taxi. Inside were 10 other people presumed to be passengers.

At 5th Avenue, the couple asked to get off the taxi but the driver allegedly refused and, instead, ordered them to pay R20 each, which they did.

The taxi proceeded with them and on 15th Avenue, the driver stopped and drew his gun along with another person, which they pointed at the couple. The other armed suspect took the woman’s boots off, fondled her breasts and took her purse containing R470 out of her bra. They also took the couple’s wedding rings and the husband’s leather jacket before dropping them off. The stolen items, including the money, are valued at R26 850.

The victims managed to take down the vehicle registration number which the police are using in their investigation.
