Young Limpopo lad tackles unemployment
ALEXANDRA – A young lad from Limpopo, but living in Alex, is on a mission to eradicate unemployment.
A young man from Limpopo who lives in a shack in Alexandra has made waves in the township just less than a month after his arrival from a rural village in Ga-Modjadji.
Karabo Junior Sekgale (24), a BA Communication graduate of the University of Limpopo and co-founder of Living Out Loud digital magazine in Alexandra, which is now in its third edition, said he is on a mission to eradicate unemployment in the country, especially among the youth.
“After graduating, I decided, together with two other young people, to start a digital magazine in the hope of motivating the South African unemployed youth and those still at school to learn to stand on their own two feet and not expect the government to be their provider and financier,” said Sekgale.
“I started a campaign #UnemploymentMustFall and went to Alex FM and shared my vision about how and what we need to do in order to get rid of unemployment in the country. After my talk, I received a number of calls from well-wishers and people congratulating me for launching the initiative.”

Sekgale and his partners have produced the third edition of their magazine without laptops, money and other resources needed for its production. “All I do is beg some friends to allow me to use their laptops and I go sit at the Alex Plaza Mall and use free Wi-Fi to email people that I want to interview and feature in the magazine, write the articles and also put the magazine together and have it ready for uploading on our site,” Sekgale said.
He added that he had this dream to take the youth off the streets and away from mischief such as using nyaope and other forms of drugs or committing crimes.
Sekgale said his vision was sparked by his failure to land a job after graduating as he did not have experience. He then started his own project in the hope of creating employment and wealth, not just for himself but for other youths loitering on the streets.

He wanted to prove to the youth that anything was possible if they applied their minds to it, regardless of whether they have the resources or not. “But here I am, a boy from a rural village in Limpopo who is hardly a month in Alexandra and I am already making waves and making it happen for my peers.
“I want to see Alex youth taking their destiny into their own hands and not waiting for government to do things for them.”
Sekgale said he was appealing to business people to come to his aid and help him fulfill his vision of creating employment for the youth of this country. “If I am given the opportunity to address my case to business people, I can walk out of the conference with more than 10 jobs for the unemployed youth.”
