NPO appeals for more music instruments

ALEXANDRA – School music NPO receives, appeals for more instruments.

An Alex-based non-profit-organisation, Persistent Music Project thanked charitable people and organisations for donating musical instruments to help them promote music in schools.

The organisation which teaches music lessons to more than 500 Grade 7 pupils at Iphutheng, Carter, Ikage and Gordon primary schools wants to conduct the lessons in all 13 primary schools in the township but are constrained by limited equipment.

In addition to the initial donation of a piano, a violin and guitar by anonymous donors, the organisation recently received three guitars, a recorder, four drums and a keyboard from Randburg resident Kelly Ann van der Meer. Acknowledging the generous donation, the organisation’s William Bapela requested for more instruments to be donated. He said it would be a travesty if the many talented children were not able to realise their talent in music.

“More instruments will help to support talented children who are not academically inclined, encourage the arts, culture and music teachers to persevere in unearthing music talent at an early age,” Bapela said.

Iphutheng Primary School teacher Eunice Mohale said the donation was God-sent and a timely gift which will support the huge passion for music by the pupils whose music lessons were currently limited only to dance. “Few as they are, the instruments will inspire the kids to excel… keep them busy and not distracted by negative things and help them to explore possible future careers in music. I have no doubt, some will become famous music professionals,” Mohale said.
