Residents should recycle cartons and paper
JOHANNESBURG – Recycling giant encourages recycling used cartons.
Residents are encouraged to raise funds for their community or school by recycling by dropping off their used cartons at their nearest Ronnie Bank.
This was the message from Mpact Recycling, one of South Africa’s largest recycling companies, which encourages people to recycle their used paper and cartons as one way to try and protect the environment.
Mpact Recycling managing director, John Hunt said the company collected about 500 000 tonnes of recovered paper and plastic per annum. The paper is then processed into recycled-based carton board and the plastic is processed into polyethylene terephthalate (Pet) and sold to the packaging industry. “This campaign of collecting cartons will help us increase the volume of recyclable material and help reduce waste going into landfill sites,” he said.
Hunt explained that recycling cartons was easy, as all it required was for the cap to be removed from the carton and then rinsed out with water, the corners turned out and the carton flattened before adding it to the recycling bin. Those people who live in areas where Mpact Recycling does not collect, can use their nearest Ronnie Bank to dispose of their used cartons and other paper products.
