Church thief gets five-year sentence
ALEXANDRA –- Man gets five-year sentence for attempted theft from a vehicle parked outside a church.
An Alex man who pleaded guilty to attempted theft from a motor vehicle was handed down a five-year prison sentence.
The accused, Alley Makhiza (23) a first-time offender, was sentenced in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for the attempted theft from a motor vehicle parked at a church on Catherine Street, Sandton on 30 October.
The vehicle owner was said to have been attending a service when security guards, who were posted outside, apprehended the accused as he tried to enter the vehicle, a bakkie, through the back window, which he’d broken.
The total damage to the vehicle was estimated at R650.
