New bike sparks great friendship
NORWOOD – Coffee shop owner Charl Smit helps out his fellow man by buying Edward Mbughi a new bike.
Through an act of kindness, a friendship between a coffee shop owner and a gardener has blossomed.
While working as a gardener at a salon in Norwood in January, Edward Mbughi’s bicycle was stolen.
Charl Smit, the owner of Loof Coffee, then decided to by Mbughi a new one. “I found out that Edward, who got a brand new bike for Christmas, had his bicycle stolen and I felt that I needed to do something,” said Smit.
“We live in a world where people don’t help each other very much. We all live for ourselves… I just went down to Sportsman’s Warehouse and bought him a new bicycle.”
Mbughi, who travels everywhere on his bike, said he was extremely distraught when he noticed that it was gone and was worried about how he would move around.
Much to his surprise, he was given a brand-new bicycle. “I’m very happy about my new bicycle. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to make it to work and earn money. I’m completely grateful for this kind act,” said Mbughi.
Smit added that people should look out for each other more and take a moment to do something small for each other, rather than living in our own worlds.
