Police search for fake police who kidnapped and robbed a woman exiting a bank at Pan Africa Mall
ALEXANDRA – Woman bundled into a car and robbed.
A victim was allegedly kidnapped, throttled and assaulted by suspected fake police officers when she refused to divulge her bank card’s pin number, after which they stole her personal items.
Alex Police spokesperson Lieutenant Allie Kodisang said they are investigating the incident. The victim arrived at a bank in the Pan Africa Mall to transfer money at midday on 23 February and was approached by three male and two female suspects as she exited the bank. They claimed to be police officers and two of them produced ‘police cards’ to authenticate their claim. They then bundled her into a car and drove off with her. In the process, they took her iPad, cellphone, ID book and bank cards from her bag.
When she refused to give them her bank card’s pin number, they strangled and assaulted her until she relented. They dropped her off in Rocherville and she contacted a relative who picked her up. It wasn’t specified whether any money was withdrawn from her account.
