UPDATE: Parktown hijacked car recovered 2 hours later in Alex
ALEXANDRA – Police investigate four cars stolen and recovered the same day, one in Alex.
Bramley police are investigating the alleged theft of a silver VW Polo which was recovered in Alex by the Metro police K9 Unit hours after it was stolen on 11 March in Parktown.
Spokesperson Superintendent Edna Mamonyane said the vehicle was recovered in 10th Avenue two hours after it was hijacked at 6pm, as the owner was entering the driveway of his Parktown home. Three armed suspects, who were allegedly waiting for the victim, pounced on and pistol-whipped him before driving off and abandoning the vehicle in Alex. Mamonyane said that usually hijackers leave stolen vehicles in secluded areas where they wait to see if police have followed tracker signals, as they believe it was in this situation.

She said the suspects often leave the vehicle close to where they live, and if it still hasn’t been recovered, they take it. Mamonyane said the Polo was towed to the Aeroton police pound for further investigation.
Mamonyane added that three other vehicles, a blue Polo, a white Mercedes Benz and a white Audi, had been stolen in other areas, on the same day and in a similar way, were also recovered. They are under investigation at the same pound.
Metro police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar was unavailable for comment by the time of publication.
