Female fraudsters con woman of R170 000 in Sandton

ALEXANDRA – Female suspects detained for swindling a woman of R170 000 in bogus investment scheme.

Two women were remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a victim of R170 000 in August 2015 in Sandton.

The suspects, said to be in the money trading business and who were known to the victim, allegedly urged the victim to invest in a business venture under their management.

After continuous persuasion, the victim relented and made a payment of R100 000 and R70 000 into an FNB bank account which the suspects gave her with a promise that she would reap dividends in three months.

The expected dividends did not materialise in December as promised.

When the victim inquired with the suspects, they allegedly reassured her that the dividends would be paid but later became evasive and unreachable during last year.

The victim then reported the matter to the police leading to their arrest and court appearance. The case was postponed to enable further investigation.
