ALEXANDRA - The township of Alexandra is in the spotlight with one of its own standing a chance to be Mrs south Africa 2014.

Alexandra is in the national spotlight as one of its own stands a chance to be Mrs South Africa 2014.

Ithumeleng Sebata (24) – who is married to Thabiso Sebata and has one child, Thagiso – is in the semi finals of this prestigeous pageant with 55 others.

The successful finalists will be announced in April and the finals will be in August at Emperor’s Palace. The pageant is for sophisticated, successful, ambitious, businesswomen, moms and wives between the ages of 25 and 50.

The ultimate winner will get the opportunity to represent South Africa in the Mrs World, Mrs Universe and Mrs Globe contests. The 2013 SA winner was Chane de Kock (28), a health consultant and motivational speaker from Cape Town.

Local lass, Itumeleng was born in Alex and stays at 18, 17th Avenue.ere. She was educated at Carter Primary School and Eastbank High School, and has qualifications in financial accounting, business management, administration and cosmetology. She runs her own web design company in Alex, and is passionately involved with various charities for children and the elderly.

She entered the contest in April. “My husband popped up with the idea of Mrs SA as I am no longer eligible for Miss SA,” Itumeleng said.

“I thrive on challenges and wanted something that could link me to programmes that have a big impact so I can help those in need. This contest is a perfect fit as it sponsors programmes and projects on cancer which is a growing health challenge in poorly-resourced communities.

“Besides enhancing my current involvement in the distribution of food parcels to granny- and child-headed households, as well as to orphans, I will get publicity for sponsorship of my homework study project for orphans in order to improve their learning.

“I want to create a well-equipped facility staffed with professionals and volunteers with the passion to help poor children excel in school so that they can lead better lives in the future.”
