Friends arrested for beating another friend
ALEXANDRA - Two drunken friends beat up their colleagues accused of stealing a cellphone.
Two friends will appear in Alexandra Magistrates Court on charges of assault after beating up a friend whom they accused of stealing a cellphone.
Alexandra police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the victim was with his friends drinking beer in one of the friends’ container shop later he decided to go to a nearby tavern to get some beers.
Maphakela explains that upon the victim’s return the two friends accused him of stealing a cellphone belonging to one of them but he denied it. The police said when the victim denied it, one of them slapped him with an open hand and the slapping continued and others joined in.
The victim said he was kicked and punched and has a swollen face and bruises all over his body. He managed to break free from assault session and ran to the police to open a case. Maphakela said the friends have since been arrested by the police and will appear in the Alexandra Magistrates Court soon for common assault.
