UPDATE: Another baby attacked by rats in Alex
According to media reports, a 3-month-old baby is missing 3 fingers and part of her nose after rats are believed to have eaten the body parts in Alexandra.
The infant is awaiting surgery as the family are unable to afford the fees.
According to News24, The rats attacked Erena Yekanyi at her home last Monday.
The baby’s mother, Thandaza told News24, “I was washing outside while Erena was sleeping inside the house. I heard her cry and when I ran into the house, I found her covered in blood,”
It is believed that this has not been the first rat attack in Alexandra, with many elders and other children being attacked by the rodents in the past.
